Chernobyl International

Esther Moser

When I heard about the disaster of Chernobyl, on April 26th 1986, I was travelling in the night train between Switzerland and Hamburg. I was four months pregnant - my immediate and desperate panic reaction to the news was to curl up and protect my unborn child, knowing exactly how unreasonable, impossible this was. In this moment in time I somehow cursed the knowledge I had accumulated about nuclear power, radioactivity and what such an accident could mean to all of us – knowledge gained by professionally being a paediatric nurse, and in my free time being involved since teenage days in the anti-nuclear movement. I knew too much, that was for sure, to believe that Chernobyl was far away from where I and my unborn child were.

Today, my beautiful daughter is healthy and happy and I am grateful for that every day. Far too many children(and adults) in the Ukraine are not and continue to suffer daily from the terrible consequences of the Chernobyl Disaster.

Please help to support the Chernobyl Children’s Project International – and remember that nuclear power should never be a solution for us, as it is never a solution for further generations.

This beautiful planet earth is only given to us to take care of for those who follow – so let’s be responsible in our actions to hand it over to the next 7 generations in the best possible state!

Blessings,

Esther
